Do you realize that not having a Probate Judge with a law degree could increase the cost to taxpayers and petitioners and prolong the time necessary to complete the proceedings?
Normally, if there are questions requiring a judicial ruling in Probate Court, these matters have to be removed to Circuit Court. This costs the petitioners additional money, time and heartache as they wait to get their critical matters resolved. This also costs the taxpayers money by clogging up the Circuit Court docket.
In counties in Alabama where the Probate Judge holds a license to practice law, a bill has been passed giving them the same power and authority of a Circuit Court judge trying the case in cases that originate in Probate Court. This saves the individuals involved time and money by having their matters handled quickly, fairly and effectively by only one judge: The Probate Judge.

As a state, we sent a message to Montgomery that we would no longer accept "business as usual." With our new Republican- led legislation changing laws each session, the Probate Judge needs to have the legal education necessary to keep up with the hundreds of laws that impact the Probate office.
I will do whatever is in my power to make your experience with the Probate Court a swift and pleasant one. I shall fairly uphold and enforce the law without bowing to special interest or personal bias. I will be available full time to explain the complex laws to the citizens who need my help. I will seek the establishment of a private, non-profit corporation, as provided by law, to qualify as guardians for low-income, developmentally disabled adults. I am willing and able to make the difficult choices and to lead by example. I shall look into staying open late one day a week and open on Saturday to provide increased access to the hard working people of Cullman and to reduce long lines. I shall organize the office to provide you with fast, fair and friendly service. I shall be a good steward of the public's money by making frugal spending choices and staying under budget.
